Are you sowing seeds?

Welcome to my blog. It's been a while since I posted so here is my June blog post.

My father was a planter. As a young child, I learned from him that when you plant a seed, you have to expect it to grow. He helped me to plant orange seeds and I remember getting impatient while waiting for something to happen to the seeds. But it was worth the wait! The seeds grew and my orange tree occupied a special spot in our plantation for many years. It provided many more trees, not only for my family but for other people.

There is life in a seed! As a Christian, I learned the meaning of this spiritual lesson  later in life.

Everything starts with a seed. Every blessing God gives are like seeds that have the potential to grow and reproduce more blessings. Our gifts, talents, money, time, testimonies are our seeds. Everything we can give is a seed. Imagine God's disappointment with us because we have kept for ourselves the blessings he bestows upon us. Is this why there is barrenness in our lives; families, communities, churches? We've become unfruitful because we are not using our gifts in the areas where they are needed.

What are we doing with those seeds? A seed is nothing unless it is sown. We cannot expect something from nothing!

Sowing seeds during personal evangelism
Befriending someone is one of the most natural thing to do. Friendliness is a gift that opens up many opportunities for sowing seeds of prayer, for sowing seeds of encouragement and for doing acts of kindness for others. My confidence grows from regular praying and sharing my faith. I find that opportunities open up  when I'm on the bus, at the shopping mall or at work. The more I do it, the more confident I become, and the more seeds I can sow. I think of it as my way of thanking God for the blessings I receive from him.

Prayer-walking -Last week we prayer-walked with our church in our local community. With my prayer-walk partner, we found several opportunities to befriend people, pray, witness and give out Christian tracks.

Overcoming fear.  Fear holds us back from many opportunities. I found out that I can overcome the fear of talking to a stranger by simply saying "hello". So by getting out there and talking to people, we overcome fear. We take the risk of being rejected, yes, but we will never know until we actually step into it.

Be yourself -Many of us have attended conferences on evangelism, and heard many great men and women evangelists share how God has used them to lead people to Christ. We get so inspired however, when we are back to our usual surroundings, we lose all that inspiration and nothing more is done about it.

God gave us gifts and made each of us unique. He has given me gifts and abilities so I can help others. The more I use these, the more room I give Him to bless me. I have so much to thank God for. He never runs out of blessings!

God is always present in our lives. He has promised that "surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

HAPPY SOWING!

Prayer of Jabez
Oh, that you would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory!
Let your hand be with me..." 1 Chronicles 4:10
 In Jesus Name, Amen.

The suddenlies!

Welcome to my November post!   God moves in the suddenlies!   Treasures Of Hope image From little things, big things grow. When a door of opportunities closes, l ittle grace becomes enough grace. We grope in the darkness of the valley until  a glimmer of light appears. Hope! Ju st a little hope, is enough hope, so you hold on to that.    When the unexpected happens, will my mustard-seed faith move the mountain that blocks the way forward? Jesus said, " if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you" Matthew 17:20. Two months ago, I resigned from my job and before I had time to ponder over things, I was on a plane to a conference for Pacifi c women in Brisbane, Australia . I had prayed about goin g to this in the past but I'd been so consumed with work and other commitments that I'd forgotten about it. U ntil now, and I thanked G

The courage of love

Against the dark background of much despair, the message of Easter, of the resurrection brings to us a bright light of hope. It is a message about the courage of love that sets the Christian faith apart from all other beliefs. It is about a loving God who relentlessly pursues us (Ezekiel 34:12) despite the sin in our lives. During our reflection time at work this week – I was led to read the following scripture: Jesus said to [Martha] “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die" (John 11:25-16). Sometimes we don’t think much about the daily acts of courage as we live out our Christian values. It takes courage to speak God's Word in places where you know there are unbelievers who are resistant to the message of he Gospel. I believe this is no time to be satisfied with the status quo in our lives. We should take every opportunity that come and turn them into times

A new year - a "fresh start"

The New Year is here! What a year it's been. And I'm really glad to be starting a New Year. Looking back, 2010 was a busy year. I started a new job at the beginning of the year. Launched my blog (Treasures In Darkness) and started writing. I volunteer weekly as co-host for a radio prayer ministry to the Samoan community and the nations. The ministry celebrated it's first birthday last year. The month of April saw the start of an outreach ministry "Treasures of Hope" to local women in the community. Then in November/December, I attended the 50th Jubilee of Youth With A Mission in Kona, Hawaii. The year closed with the passing away of my father on Christmas day. That year is behind me now. It's time to look ahead! One of the values I had learned from my late father's life was that of ' perseverance. ' He believed in hard work ("if you don't work you don't eat... you become poor"). As a fisherman, he was well known for bringing big
