It's time to sow

Welcome to my spring 2013 blogpost!

It's the first day of spring 2013!
A new season of new life is springing up  around us.
My journal tells me that the previous two months were full of challenges but there's plenty of reasons to praise and thank God. The positives outweigh the negative. You may ask yourself the same question, "Where would we be If it hadn't been for God?"; his love, grace and his mercy. In Psalm 103, David says, "O, my soul bless God, don't forget a single blessing!" (MSG).

We gain spiritual strength from our personal relationship with God. We grow in strength and in confidence from knowing that God can use ordinary people like us to express his love to others. God has put new tasks across our paths because he wants to grow us and move us into a new place. Only God can turn ordinary and insignificant moments into God-moments. Who wants to live an ordinary life when God has so much going for each one of us!

Friendliness opens doors to great conversations. Some of my sweetest and most precious moments have been spent in the presence of a 6 year old girl I met on the bus. During our first conversation, she told me her sad story that her parents were separated. I tried to hold back the tears and asked permission to pray for her. I encouraged her to pray and talk to Jesus when she has worries. A few days later she told me that she's been praying everyday but her mother hasn't come back. I was lost for words and was humbled by her childlike faith. Only God can mend a child's broken heart. We pray every time we meet on the same bus. I'm thankful that her father allows our little friendship to grow even for that 20 minutes we are on the bus. I keep praying, trusting God for this precious little girl he has put across my path.

Through us, God can change our environment. Like giving kindness to beggars on the street, through us stopping to reach out to someone who needs help. And here's a challenge for us adults - paying some attention to young people we come across, speaking in love instead of condemning them for their rowdy behaviors. How about we choose to be the peacemakers instead of reacting in anger? We say we should 'mind our own business' and let things be the way they are. But we cannot make changes with just our thinking and no actions. I was very encouraged with a sermon I read about 'The Parable of the Sower' (Matthew 13). Jesus spoke about a farmer scattering his seeds in different places. Jesus didn't specify one type of soil instead he mentioned the footpath, rocky and thorny soil. This parable tells us to sow regardless of what environment we are in. God alone can cause the seed to grow.

Solomon the wisest man that ever lived said,  "Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let not your hands be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well? (Ecclesiastes 11:6)

Here's my closing thought, God can make a miracle with that ordinary seed in your hand. So go ahead, obey him and sow it!

A word of prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to sow seeds of your authority into our lives and over the enemy.  Help us to hear your voice and cause our faith to rise up and sow your spoken word into the needy places in our lives. In Jesus Name, Amen.

God bless you and thank you for visiting. You are welcome to leave a comment.,

The suddenlies!

Welcome to my November post!   God moves in the suddenlies!   Treasures Of Hope image From little things, big things grow. When a door of opportunities closes, l ittle grace becomes enough grace. We grope in the darkness of the valley until  a glimmer of light appears. Hope! Ju st a little hope, is enough hope, so you hold on to that.    When the unexpected happens, will my mustard-seed faith move the mountain that blocks the way forward? Jesus said, " if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you" Matthew 17:20. Two months ago, I resigned from my job and before I had time to ponder over things, I was on a plane to a conference for Pacifi c women in Brisbane, Australia . I had prayed about goin g to this in the past but I'd been so consumed with work and other commitments that I'd forgotten about it. U ntil now, and I thanked G

The courage of love

Against the dark background of much despair, the message of Easter, of the resurrection brings to us a bright light of hope. It is a message about the courage of love that sets the Christian faith apart from all other beliefs. It is about a loving God who relentlessly pursues us (Ezekiel 34:12) despite the sin in our lives. During our reflection time at work this week – I was led to read the following scripture: Jesus said to [Martha] “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die" (John 11:25-16). Sometimes we don’t think much about the daily acts of courage as we live out our Christian values. It takes courage to speak God's Word in places where you know there are unbelievers who are resistant to the message of he Gospel. I believe this is no time to be satisfied with the status quo in our lives. We should take every opportunity that come and turn them into times

A new year - a "fresh start"

The New Year is here! What a year it's been. And I'm really glad to be starting a New Year. Looking back, 2010 was a busy year. I started a new job at the beginning of the year. Launched my blog (Treasures In Darkness) and started writing. I volunteer weekly as co-host for a radio prayer ministry to the Samoan community and the nations. The ministry celebrated it's first birthday last year. The month of April saw the start of an outreach ministry "Treasures of Hope" to local women in the community. Then in November/December, I attended the 50th Jubilee of Youth With A Mission in Kona, Hawaii. The year closed with the passing away of my father on Christmas day. That year is behind me now. It's time to look ahead! One of the values I had learned from my late father's life was that of ' perseverance. ' He believed in hard work ("if you don't work you don't eat... you become poor"). As a fisherman, he was well known for bringing big
